Usui’s Reiki Healing: A powerful healing modality using sacred symbols

Hey, hey! How is that resilience building up? I’ve got a couple of messages about creating guided meditations to build up resilience, and that is a great idea, so I am adding this idea for future releases. This week we will talk about the Usui Reiki healing modality. Classically, this healing modality is known as “hands-on healing,” as well as channeling from the Universal flow of energy to bring balance in life.

Thanks to the help of the Spirit Guides and some powerful sacred symbols, the Usui Reiki modality performs marvelously remotely as well. Reiki Healing is marvelous to aid stress, and anxiety, as well as other negative emotions such as depression. Usui Reiki teaches that the energy will flow through your body most naturally and gently. The energy itself will activate not only your main chakras, but all the chakras throughout your body, activating them, and enabling a greater energetic flow through your being.

A little bit about Mikao Usui

I want to share a brief quote from Mikao Usui’s life of life, sort of a small introduction since he is at the head of the lineage in this modality:

Mikao Usui (臼井甕男, 15 August 1865 – 9 March 1926, commonly Usui Mikao in Japanese) was the founder of a form of spiritual practice known as Reiki,  used as a complementary therapy for the treatment of physical, emotional, and mental diseases. According to the inscription on his memorial stone, Usui taught Reiki to over 2000 people during his lifetime. Sixteen of these students continued their training to reach the Shinpiden level, a level equivalent to the Western third-degree, or Master/Teacher level. Usui died on 9 March 1926 of a stroke.

Mikao Usui was the father of a form of spiritual practice known as Reiki.

Usui founded the Usui Reiki Ryōhō Gakkai (臼井靈氣療法學會 in Traditional Mandarin, meaning “Usui’s Spiritual Energy Therapy Society”), a society of Japanese Reiki masters. His style is assumed to have survived to the present day (assumed as no-one knows exactly how the Gakkai practices nowadays), with Ushida being the one who, upon death, substituted the presidency of the association.

Now that you got to know him, as well as his energy (especially if you are an empath), we can continue talking about the Usui Reiki modality.

The Reiki Energy Healing

Reiki is all about moving energy and enabling the universal flow of energy in your life. As you know, I like to keep things simple, so this is a great foundation to start with. The story of Dr. Usui and his mystical experience on Mount Kurama shows an important sequence. After he received the information on the energy and how to use it, the first time he used it was on himself. This correlates to the First Degree of Reiki (Usui Reiki Level 1.) Certainly, after one has received the first level of attunement, one can use the energy for others as well as themselves.

Reiki can be used for your healing as well as for others. This is one thing that differentiates Reiki from many other energy healing systems. Treating yourself is an excellent way to become familiar with using Reiki. I recommend that you give yourself treatments daily, if possible, particularly at the beginning of your practice if you are a Reiki Healer. This will also help clear up any detoxification symptoms that do occur. Self-treatment can be done by putting your hands on your body in adaptations of the standard hand placements.

Reiki will go to where it is needed. I find that it works fine just to turn on Reiki and let it run, after all, you are in your body. That means that you are touching it. Whatever your Reiki level is, using the hand positions will probably give you more sensory confirmation than a remote treatment and may well work faster in each specific area. You may also simply work from the heart chakra to the rest of the body, it is up to how you feel guided.

Reiki energy will flow through your hands when you open up your heart and connect.

What is a Usui Reiki Symbol?

Okay, to go to the point. The first level of Reiki goes around self-healing, and perhaps even healing others after some time for practice (this is unique for every individual, I have seen students taking from a few days to a few months to feel truly ready for the next step. Here, you learn the Usui Reiki hand positions, as well as other teachings around energy. I explain in my Reiki Manual a powerful self-treatment healing technique that my Spirit Guides taught me.

In the second degree, you learn how to heal others, whether they are present or as a distance reiki healer. As I said above, “Reiki energy goes where it’s needed.” This is true also in terms of time and space, as energy is not affected by either, energy simply flows. Here, the Usui Reiki symbols come into play and enable this to happen. Let’s take a look at them:

The Power Symbol
  • The power symbol can be used to increase the power of Reiki. You can use it for protection. See it as a light switch that has the intention to boost your ability to channel Reiki energy instantly. The Power Symbol also gives the other symbols more power when you use it at the same time.
  • The symbol can be used anytime during treatment, but it is especially effective if it is used at the beginning of a session to empower the Reiki energy or when used at the end of a session to close the session and seal off the Reiki energies.
The Mental/Emotional Symbol
  • The Mental/Emotional symbol brings together the “brain and the body.” It helps people to bring to the surface and release the mental/emotional causes of their problems. Physical ailments are generally connected with emotional disruptions that can be treated.
  • This symbol can be used to help with emotional and mental healing. It balances the left and right sides of the brain and gives peace and harmony. It is also very effective for relationship problems.
The Distance Symbol
  • The symbol has a general meaning of: “No past, no present, no future” or it can have the meaning of “The Buddha in me, contacts the Buddha in you.” The Distance symbol can, as its name implies, be used to send energies over a distance. Time and distance are no problem when using this Reiki symbol.
  • Be open when doing distance healing! Do not focus your efforts on healing a specific problem like a headache. Send the Reiki energies without limitation as they will go where they are best needed. When doing distance healing the energies will work on the receiver’s subtle body, the Chakras, and the Aura, and not as much on the physical level.
Thanks to the Reiki Symbols, you can maximize the potential with Usui Reiki energies!

The third degree and the Master Symbol

There will be a moment when you will hear a higher calling, the desire to teach, and even attune other healers with the Usui Reiki healing modality. At this level, you will be able to connect the deepest energetically, and empathically with anyone seeking your support. At this level, you are ready to guide other healers as you continue growing and developing as well. At this level, you are attuned to the Master Symbol.

The Master Symbol is extremely powerful. It heals disease from the highest source. The spiritual body levels contain the blueprint or template from which the physical body comes from. Healing at this level makes profound changes. Life changes are likely to occur here. As with the other symbols, only use it when your intuition asks you to. This is the symbol I use for most of my healings. It is almost like using a power-up, why not use it if available?

A small story about symbols

I shared the four main symbols that you will be using in your Reiki path when healing others. However, there are additional symbols and variations as each reiki healer is guided. For example, you use a couple more symbols when you are attuning someone. Some Reiki Masters feel guided to use not only variations, but perhaps additional channeled ones that they are connected with, or even with the person receiving the attunement.

I have briefly read some stories about Reiki having a lot more symbols, but in religious wars, these got lost. I am not sure about the exact story, but it is true that sometimes, new symbols appear. I witnessed this once with a student who had a vision of a symbol during their attunement. We checked against the Akashic Records and their Spirit Guides confirming that this indeed was a powerful symbol for that person to use. Isn’t that amazing?

Crystals for Reiki

To wrap up, I want to bring up the subject of crystals as powerful healers that you can include. If you connect with a crystal, and you feel the urge to use it during your healing sessions, make sure to do so. Don’t forget to cleanse the crystal before, and after each time you use it.

You can use crystals for healing when you feel the calling and a crystal to work with.

You can use crystals for healing when you feel the calling and have a crystal to work with.

The significance of the Usui Reiki symbols in healing practice goes down to the heart, because ultimately, you must use these symbols when you are ready, and only as guided. Perhaps at first, you will use them religiously, but you should honor what Usui Reiki Healing teaches, which is to promote the flow of universal energy. When ready, if you feel like using a symbol, use it, if you feel like not using it, even if intellectually makes sense, don’t.

Don’t forget that Reiki energy is healing, and you can’t harm. You cannot misuse a symbol, if you draw it poorly, your Guides will fix it. If you use a symbol and perhaps is not the best energy for the situation, your or the receiver’s guides will amend the required energetic changes. So, all you need to do is to open up and allow the light to flow. You can read more about energy healing and how it feels on one of the first pages that arrived here.

FAQ

Q: Who was Mikao Usui?

A: Mikao Usui (臼井甕男, 15 August 1865 – 9 March 1926, commonly Usui Mikao in Japanese) was the founder of a form of spiritual practice known as Reiki, used as a complementary therapy for the treatment of physical, emotional, and mental diseases. Read Mikao’s Wikipedia entry here.

Q: What are Usui Reiki symbols?

A: In Reiki, there are many symbols, and more are yet to be found or channeled. The three main symbols on level 2 are The Power Symbol, The Mental & Emotional Symbol, and the Long Distance Symbol. For Level 3/Master, you have the Master Symbol.

Q: Why are Reiki symbols kept confidential?

A: This goes by the choice of each Reiki Master, as information is also to be shared. In ways, it is important to be attuned to Reiki before using these symbols, mainly because of energetic disciple purposes.

Q: How are Reiki symbols activated?

A: By opening up different chakras, and with the help of your Spirit Guides, you channel energy towards the symbol as you draw it, generally visualizing white light using your finger. Intentions will activate their benefits.

Q: What is the significance of the Master symbol in Reiki?

A: The power of combining all three level 2 symbols, transcending the energy to a higher vibration when combined. It allows the healing energy to transcend through time and space.

Q: How does attunement empower Reiki symbols?

A: When you are attuned, by instinct (because of your soul), you start to be able to tap into the energies that are connected to the Reiki white light. From here, with the help of your guides, you will have the right energetic alignment to activate the symbols.

Q: Can Reiki symbols be drawn differently by different practitioners?

A: Some have slight variations, normally the Power Symbol. My Level I and II Reiki Master taught me to draw it counter-clockwise, while my Master Level’s Reiki Master (a different person in my path), drew them clockwise. Ultimate, it goes by intentions, and how each resonates to you.

Q: What is Usui Shiki Ryoho?

A: It stands for “spiritual healing method” normally translated as the Usui’s Spiritual healing method. It is a healing modality that channels universal energies.
