Ego Dissolution is a powerful state of mind where you temporarily detach from your ego, enabling a view and a perception of the world away from the sense of self. This is a high state of spirituality that you can reach through deep meditation and using master plants. You can even experience ego dissolution from intense situations.

Ego dissolution gives you temporal access to Oneness: What to keep in mind?

If you reach a state of ego dissolution, you might feel that your sense of being a separate individual leaves your consciousness, enabling you to experience unity with the Universe, a feeling of deep understanding, or even a feeling of being connected with everything in your surroundings. You can reach this state through a sporadic and intense situation, both positive and negative happenings. You can also reach this state through deep meditation, astral projection, and sometimes, the help of master plants with psychedelic teachings.

Before we continue, did you have a chance to check out the March Tarot Reading? The messages are always powerful and helpful, so don't forget to take a look. On top of this, you can read about the 22nd and last Major Arcana card, The World. It is amazing how much you can learn from the Tarot!

Furthermore, keep something in mind. When we talk about ego dissolution vs. ego death, we are referring to almost the same thing, where the latter is a complete loss of ego instead of a partial loss. We never talk of physical death here; your ego will come back, whether you like it or not.

These states of mind are safe as long as you are in a controlled and safe environment with a reliable sitter next to you, especially if you have used Master Plants to reach this state. Remember, you don't need them. You can reach ego dissolution through meditation and practices such as Astral Projection. Keep in mind that this is completely safe, and normally, you will have a deep, profound, positive experience with a minor risk of sometimes experiencing some acute emotional distress triggered by release.

When the sense of self starts to disappear

In some states of mind, you reach a moment where your sense of self starts losing the boundaries with reality. It's as if "a person in a painting" becomes aware that they "themselves" are only a part of a painting, and that the "painting" itself continues right "after their body," filling up the entire world (the actual painting as a whole)

You may lose a part of your awareness of self (ego dissolution), but you also may entirely stop perceiving that you are an individual (ego death), yielding you very profound spiritual experiences. You will always go back to your normal after each experience, but it is true that by inducing this state often, you reach a state that you value more, the state of Oneness, turning to be more empathic, more serene, and not needing the fight or flight mechanism.

Drop any online myths; ego death (or ego dissolution) is not final. You always get back your ego since it's part of you while incarnated as a human being. This could be confused with clinical depersonalization, but this is something that a mental health professional should talk about.

Another misconception is confusing intensity with the experience. For example, if you feel very elevated and disconnected from all, you are riding a very, very, very tall pony (high horse). One of the main ego dissolution symptoms is precisely detaching from yourself; therefore, you cannot feel "more elevated" without an ego (you are comparing with "more"). Ego dissolution would be more like feeling you are in a super high frequency while understanding that everything is one, and now that you are, you can feel it.

While it's completely safe, if you are perhaps fragile mentally or personally (it doesn't matter the reasons), you want to go with tiny steps and always with the right non-judgmental support. You want to gradually feel your ego dissolution, and if you start feeling anxious, don't go deeper, but work in this stage; you will find healing and the ability to deepen down the line.

Okay, cool. So, can you tell me how ego dissolution feels and compares with other states?

Of course I can! You are in the right state. I can also affirm that I have experienced states of ego dissolution as well as ego death with the simple practice of Lucid Dreaming and Astral Projection. If this raised your eyebrow, read more on Sleep Paralysis here, because this is a gateway to experiencing ego death.

Ego dissolution toward ego death makes you feel connected with everything.
Ego dissolution toward ego death makes you feel connected with everything.

I am sharing a small excerpt from my notes on how I experienced a heavy degree of ego dissolution, but with a fraction of awareness of self (which I used as an anchor):

I returned from my body after what felt like a very profound astral journey. Before breaking my trance, I focused on raising my vibrations further, and once again, projected myself away from my body to an ideally higher plane of existence. I suddenly saw the entire universe from a perspective, as if I were the Universe itself watching itself. I couldn't perceive time, and I knew that I could even bind to any lifetime I had on and off Earth. I wasn't bound to time either, and I knew I was also accessing all parallel realities at once.

I didn't control this, I didn't have thoughts of self, except of feeling my sutratma (silver cord) attached somewhere (to my 'current' body), almost as if a thin thread that allowed me to not get lost in this sphere that encompassed all existances and timelines within, ensuring I will not get lost, and find my body back to this current lifetime.

I still had an awareness of my body "being somewhere" and "being safe," but nothing else. I wouldn't even think of "how amazing this would be to recollect later" as something normal in a lucid dream and some astral travels. I also knew I was connected to all, and that as being "everything," the "rules" changed. I didn't know them consciously, but I knew I was aligned by simply being part of everything.

If I were to narrate a complete ego death from my notes, it would be something even more profound than the above, by not even knowing I had a body or that I was eventually going to return. I was in a timeless state, where I perceived everything and nothing at once, and simply, I was as everything was. Very hard to put into words.

The dissociation is far colder than the two above; sometimes, in treatments for depression and others, medications trigger dissociative feelings, but these are not positive. Sometimes, these are also by-products of depersonalization. This last one could occur more often when you are dealing with mental problems or drugs that trigger dissociation.

Grounding is always imperative

To get the most out of your ego dissolution or ego death experience, once you return to your body, you need to make sure to hydrate yourself, do some grounding exercises, and then reflect on what you have experienced. This is a journey that perhaps you will embark on more than once, so make sure to invest quality time. Do not engage right away in activities requiring focus, such as driving; instead, take time to feel deeply rooted in your body and surroundings.

Nature grounds you from an ego dissolution experience.

For example, spending some time in nature after one of these journeys will turn out to be quite powerful because your reintegration will be a lot more solid. You will expand the energy of your root chakra quite nicely, so you will not be lingering with lightheadedness or other minor side effects. You will also have a fresher recall of your experience, and with earthy energies, these will be cemented better in your memories.

Furthermore, if you get engaged in other activities around your neighborhood, meeting with some people, or taking a nice stroll, you will get a lot of insight. Your mind will be processing your experience, and by doing something lighter but grounding, it will definitely pay off.  Reflection is key during ego dissolution practices.

Potential Benefits of Ego Dissolution

A lot of people explore ego dissolution and ego death by hearing others having an amazing experience. Whether you are a oneironaut, astral projectionist, psychonaut, or a deep meditator, you will probably have heard how amazing this state is. I can assure you it's amazing. But on top of "having a great experience," there are a few more benefits, and I will briefly name them.

  • Reduced attachment to identity and social stimulus: Society is ego-driven; celebrities are copied, and there are rules on how to look, how to think, what music you should listen to, etc. Experiencing ego dissolution will render you uninterested in many popular events that most people follow mindlessly. However, for what you seem to truly value, you will appreciate it more because of the next benefit.
  • Increased self-awareness: You are unique and not driven by what you are told but by what you truly like. I am sure you do, or watch, or hear stuff that "everybody does," and you don't want to be left behind. The more your self-awareness increases, the more aligned you will feel, and your actions and everybody surrounding you will be a lot more authentic.
  • Compassion, Insight, Presence, and Intuition: Once you perceive Oneness through ego dissolution or ego death, you will understand how this feels, and you will recall it. This will make you more loving and humble, because you will understand the big picture a lot better. You will have a greater understanding of certain issues or struggles, even if not yours. Furthermore, you will know how to hold space better and make yourself energetically notable for good reasons.

Don't seek ego death just to collect benefits; this is not like Lucid Dreaming, it is something far more profound, and you could give yourself a small scare (still good for growth) or simply not understand this state or not reach it because it is not the time.

Ego dissolution transforms you!

So, keep in mind that the best benefit is how this subject keeps you interested in improving yourself.

Conclusion

In the end, the amount of exploration you can do is what will pay off in the end. There is no right or wrong here. Some people don't experience this, some do it only once and no more, despite having an amazing experience. Others will continue exploring and follow this path for as long as they see necessary. You need to make sure not to force things, but let them happen.

Remember, ego dissolution is not a goal or something you "just do." Instead, you should take this as a powerful tool. Sometimes, you will need to go to this state to have a point of view on something without being affected by your ego, to have a different perspective, and perhaps, the winning solution.

FAQ

Q: What is ego dissolution?

A: Ego dissolution is a perception where you start losing your identity of self and feeling more connected to the world that surrounds you.

Q: Is ego dissolution the same as ego death?

A: Ego death is a complete loss of self, meaning that you don't perceive your identity at all, whereas ego dissolution is more of a partial experience. To get to experience ego death, you go through ego dissolution first, losing more and more sense of self.

Q: Is ego dissolution safe?

A: Yes, ego dissolution is safe, and it can even yield profoundly positive experiences as long as this is reached in a safe environment with the right support next to you.

Q: Can meditation cause ego dissolution?

A: Yes, when you go very deep in meditation, you can start triggering a sense of detachment, and if you keep going deeper, you will reach the state of ego dissolution.

Q: Is ego dissolution permanent?

A: No, ego dissolution/death is temporal. However, when you experience these states very often, you start developing an awareness of knowing how to detach from self and how it feels, making you feel constantly more connected to everything, more empathic, and less affected by ego-triggering situations.

Q: How do you integrate ego dissolution experiences?

A: Journaling is the best step to integrate ego dissolution experiences. Going back to former experiences and reflecting is also very positive, as well as exploring yourself and what this state of mind brings you. Grounding exercises will help you not only reintegrate but also cement the experience by allowing your normal day-by-day life to flow.

Q: When should professional help be considered?

A: There could be cases in which you suffer from certain medical conditions where you should refrain from inducing trance. If you have gone too far, and a latent condition doesn't allow you to function normally in your day-to-day, don't worry; professional help will quickly help you get back on your feet and sense of self.

Ego Dissolution and Ego Death are high states of spirituality that will shift your life when you experience them. Remember, as with everything, this is a journey too, so don't allow your ego to rush you into ego death (pun intended). Be patient, take one step at a time, and enjoy the process, as it is what gets you there.
