Let’s meet: The Hierophant Tarot Card – An introduction

The Hierophant card is significant in terms of following and questioning. One symbology from the Conspiracy Tarot is to maximize when something needs to be questioned through the imagery of some of the cards. The Hierophant initially recommends you to follow a structured set of guidelines, generally imposed by people with either more degrees than you or people who have an allegedly superior spiritual (aka religious hierarchy.)

You might be settled in life with a good job, and a good set of activities, and even you can feel aligned spiritually with your beliefs. You don’t want to fix (or change) what is not broken, and it’s working well for you. The Hierophant here could come up and tell you to make no changes and to keep up with what is working well for you, and this is fantastic. Take this as a profound validation that you are doing things rightfully for your goals.

Upright meanings

I have to say that being in this situation might be a way of saying, “an easy life,” however, are you truly happy? You might love following rules, and making sure that some other heads think while they create a safe pathway for you. This is not bad, we need both leaders and followers… but you need to be the right follower by making sure your leaders are right for you. You are likely to have everything aligned in your life, to the point of feeling comfortable and happy. If this is true for you, then certainly you are aligned with The Hierophant tarot card.

You can rely on what the Hierophant has for you because, in a way, they will deliver to you exactly what you want to see. So far so good right?  This card holds a massive polarity, but at the same time, both teachings from straight or reversed apply in both directions. The Hierophant has a very mystifying energy that can easily take you through a sea of confusion, ultimately tweaking you and encouraging you to follow.

Not so far so good anymore, right? Well, I will flip you the coin again! If this “hierophant” doesn’t have an agenda and their highest purpose is to help you unconditionally, you can surely follow their teachings. This card when not in reverse reminds you of that, however, I would recommend that you have keen eyes still, to ensure that your leaders keep aligned. Let’s go a little bit deeper into specifics:

• Love and relationships: If you are in The Hierophant tarot card in an upright position, you can tell that you have a strong relationship with a strong foundation. The both of you have likely adjusted to each other, yielding to a relationship where there is loyalty and love. You have solid friendships, probably friendships that took you years to build up, but that now is great because everybody invested a fair amount of energy in the friendship.
• Money and career: An upright position for The Hierophant Tarot card means that you are likely doing as well as you are. Your finances are balanced, and you keep a conservative approach to life. You are focusing on saving up, and you don’t need to make risky financial decisions. In your job, you are essential in your position for everything to keep going in alignment, so make sure to keep your same work ethic, and don’t attempt to do anything new. If you are in a group of colleagues, make sure to not change anyone in the group or how you are organized.
• Health and spirituality: You are comfortable with your spirituality and your beliefs, you find them to be in alignment. You may be more comfortable following a spiritual leader versus following a path in spirituality. You prefer to follow a set of rules such as being very strict in following a balanced diet every day, working out, and other must-do for your body. While this is fantastic, you might take it to the extreme and avoid that barbeque or party with your friends because of the food and alcohol. This is not ideal.

Ultimately, if you are connected to The Hierophant tarot card in an upright position you are doing great overall. However, you might want to do two things. Firstly, perhaps have a little fun, and second, for you to still ensure now and then that the alignments you have in life are making you happy instead of making you feel trapped. I am sure that throughout your life, your priorities will change, so it is good to keep checking.

Reverse meanings

Let’s say that you have been following a religious faith for a very long time, however, you are now at a point where you are not sure anymore. You have asked your religious leaders and their answer didn’t fulfill your spiritual needs. You start to question and seek a different path for your spirituality. If this is true for you, you are in the classic position of a reverse The Hierophant Tarot card. However, this could also be starting to disagree with the company’s motives where you worked for years, or even a group or identity taking a turn and disagreeing with you.

The Hierophant tarot card reverse arrives in your life as a challenge, and a lot of times a difficult one. You will be making major changes in your life, belief system, or even what or who you are casually following. Are you going through a spiritual awakening? While we are constantly awakening and learning more, is true that the first steps put you in a reversed hierophant situation. You are not blinded by the absent promises of politicians, as a reverse hierophant will never follow, but question and perhaps even revolt.

You cannot put your entire life upside down, not all at once. Well, you may, actually, but it is not for the faint of heart, and as we talked last week, you need to be compassionate with yourself. However, you cannot lie to yourself if you know something is wrong. If you find yourself selling questionable used cars, and you cannot just follow the company’s rules of selling whatever clunker they have available, you only have one option… So, make sure to make one change at a time when you find the need to. Let’s go a little bit deeper into specifics:

• Love and relationships: If you are in The Hierophant tarot card in a reverse position, you might have some problems in your relationship. One or both of you have stopped communicating with each other, and even both of you might have broken foundational rules for a healthy relationship such as love, loyalty, and desire for the highest purpose for the other person. You might have lost the connection with your group of friends, maybe they started with a new hobby that you don’t feel drawn to.
• Money and career: It is time to change how you are approaching your professional and financial challenges… it’s not working. This doesn’t mean that you are doing it wrong, but the rules you are following don’t work anymore, regardless of how long they did. There could be changes in the management of your company, new corruption, or something that breaks the harmony that otherwise was present. Change whatever financial strategies you have, talk to your financial advisor.
• Health and spirituality: You are following some beliefs that might not be true for you anymore. Perhaps you have a lesson in your ankle, and you cannot run anymore your 15 daily kilometers. You need to find a different way to keep up with the same degree of workout, especially if you needed, but an alternative approach, for example, biking. You are awakening spiritually and you cannot follow the teachings imposed on you as a kid, so you question and seek change.

Ultimately, if you are connected to The Hierophant tarot card in a reverse position, you might be entering a phase of interesting moments, but also very challenging. You should never be afraid of change, especially if your beliefs are guiding you. You need to prepare yourself, that is all, and the first step is for you to reflect on what brought you to start questioning things. You will be able to realign yourself in a much better position than you were before.
