Let's meet: The Devil Tarot Card—An introduction
The Devil is, for most, one of the "scary cards"; however, I can assure you that the message is not to induce fear but to certainly get you out of a point of fear and manipulation. Take the devil tarot card meaning as one that if you stumble with it in your path, it means that there is something deceptive, wrong, and obsessive going on in your life. Take it as a hidden truth that is being exposed, so you only need to complete your realization and take action.
The Devil tarot card is one of the most characteristic cards from The Conspiracy Tarot, versus the more average symbolism, although in the end, the message is exactly the same. This is one of the cards that inspired the title of this deck by exposing the lies and deceptions of modern society and how the big corporations have created a whole assortment of necessities and commodities across the entire civilization. The potential fear comes from many sources of information, alongside potential manipulation of that information due to bias and beliefs.
Upright Meanings
The Devil Tarot Card meaning, when upright, mainly talks about there being something very off in the situation you are in. This doesn't mean you need to freak out or give up; however, you must have a much more careful approach to the situation. Here, normally we can talk about potential manipulation and misleading, perhaps having a positive impression of something that is quite negative otherwise. The devil card in tarot comes as an eye-opener, a "pay attention, as all that glitters is not gold." You bought or are buying something that is not the way it seems, and you need to pay clear attention to it.

The Devil Tarot card represents a source of negativity and fear with their own agenda, offering you what, in a way, they want you to desire, bringing you into a mystifying illusion where you believe you have what you need. This card talks about becoming too dependent on something, including addiction, and letting it pretty much control your life. If you are getting obsessed with something and the devil card shows up, you definitely want to work a little bit on that obsession; it will pay off in the future!
This card also delivers the general meaning of being trapped, for example, in an unfulfilling friendship, an underpaying job from which you could step up but believe you will not, or even those moments that you take on a hobby while you perhaps don't even resonate with what you are making a hobby of. Remember, be authentic with yourself, and you will avoid deception. Let's go a little deeper with the devil tarot card.
- Love and Relationships. If you are exploring a relationship and this card shows up, you can tell that communication is failing, and severely. When one or both members in a couple are putting everything under the rug instead of dealing with it, they enter a "the devil tarot card phase," where this card could show up, reminding them of the wrong turn they are making. You must work now on your relationship, or things will go south.
- Finances and Career. It is likely that if you get the devil card upright in your career, it means you are feeling trapped in your position, potentially due to underpay, feeling undervalued, and believing you cannot opt for something better. It is time to reclaim your power in your career as well as take control of material resources such as money. Pay attention to impulsive spending, and especially "covering holes" with spending in general.
- Spirituality and Health. If you see this card in your health and spirituality, you need to check how you are coming by. How are you feeling spiritually? Are you feeling connected and committed, or do you otherwise feel empty and discouraged? How connected are you with yourself? You need to reclaim the reins of your health and spiritual alignment, and from here, take action in making any changes required to go back to mindfulness.
You can tell that the devil tarot card in upright is sort of a whistleblower of something hidden that you didn't (or didn't want to) see. I would take this card as a serious warning sign, but also as a blessing by making you aware of it and giving you the opportunity to make a change in your life. However, don't lie to yourself in minimizing the importance here; instead, change what you need to receive what you desire.
Reverse Meaning
Perhaps you are thinking, "if the devil tarot card is tough enough, reversed it will be far worse, I am sure," right? Well, wrong! This is one of those cards that, when they show in reverse position, bring positive energies, validating that you are following your path and working hard on it. If upright, it talks about deception, manipulation, and lies; when in reverse, it means that you are walking out successfully from a former situation of lies.
Easy and extreme example: quitting a cult is a reverse of The Devil Tarot card situation. Freeing yourself from all the lies and manipulation!

One powerful message when the devil tarot card reversed shows up is a great validation that you are regaining control of your life. It is possible that you have found the path you really want to follow and worked your way to get there, relying on your capabilities and avoiding mystifying situations.Â
If you work a lot on yourself, you can get the reversed devil card, bringing reassurance that this self-work is paying off, and you are growing stronger and a lot more aligned with yourself. You are reclaiming your personal power, and you have keen eyes, being less vulnerable to lies and deception. You have stopped doing what was destroying you, and now you are moving forward again in the right direction. Let's go a little bit deeper into the meanings.
- Love and Relationships. You are likely to regain control of your love life when you see the devil tarot card reversed. Perhaps you left that toxic relationship, or you have started seeking to connect to people who are closer and more authentic, versus relationships full of absent promises. You are starting to embrace individuality and self-love. Your judgment in your personal connections is clear and on point.
- Finances and Career. You feel in control of your career path, learning to leave behind toxic environments, as well as bringing into alignment exactly what you need and what to do. You will make rightful decisions because you are very involved in the situation and know all your possibilities. The Devil Tarot card's reverse meaning also validates that you are finding a healthy work-life balance, as suggested in the Path to Success course.
- Spirituality and Health. You are very on point with the decisions you are making healthwise. You know well what your physical body needs, and you are making it happen. You feel aligned with the Universe, and you are not prone to spiritual deception. You trust your abilities and yourself, and uncertainty for you is an opportunity to get the most out of a challenging situation.
As you can see, the reversed devil tarot card is a fantastic validator that you are doing things the way you need to. You have learned to see through deception and manipulation, you have regained your power, and you are in control... fantastic! Welcome to your life of strong mental toughness and infrangible resilience!
You should reflect on the following questions
When I created The Conspiracy Tarot (if you want a copy, make sure to use the coupon BLOG111 at checkout), I added questions for you to reflect upon each of the cards. You can find this within the pages of the Little White Book that comes with the deck. But for today, for the Devil Tarot Card, I am sharing these questions for you to reflect on. Once you do, feel free to leave a comment and share your thoughts and findings. This will help others a lot!
- What do you do to be able to live above the fear and negativity?
- Do you feel that it is possible that you have an addiction to electronics?
- Do you have sincerity and seek to receive it?
I've been questioning whether to leave a comment for each of these questions, but I want to leave them as they come in the Little White Book for the Conspiracy Tarot. I hope these questions help you bring something that will improve your life, even a little bit.
