Why Happiness Is Crucial in Spiritual Practice
From guided visualizations to intention setting, emotion is the fuel behind manifestation. When you visualize from a place of joy, your energy becomes magnetic. But many people struggle with
this first step, especially if they feel disconnected from joy or emotionally drained. Over the years of working as a spiritual teacher and guide, I’ve heard from countless students
who say, “I don’t remember a happy moment” or “I’m not sure I’ve ever truly felt joy.” That’s why I created the meditation “Receive a Gift”, to help people reconnect with their inner light. Today,
I’ll walk you through a foundational practice that makes it easier to spark happiness, anytime.
Step 1: Redefine What Happiness Means
We often assume that joy must come from big events—marriage, promotions, birthdays. But happiness is rarely grand. It’s usually small, quiet, and deeply personal.
Maybe it was:
● The way a stranger smiled at you on a hard day
● Laughing uncontrollably at a silly meme
● The comfort of petting a dog
● A brief memory from childhood that still feels warm
Start with something small. That’s where your emotional memory lives.
Step 2: Recall and Re-Experience the Moment
Once you’ve chosen a simple happy memory, relive it fully using all your senses:
● What did the air feel like?
● What sounds were around you?
● How did your body feel in that moment?
Close your eyes, breathe slowly, and allow your heart to tune into the memory. If your mind wanders or doubts arise, gently bring it back to that scene. Even if you can only feel 10% of the joy you once did, that’s enough to start. You’re creating an energetic match for more.
Step 3: Amplify the Joy Into Your Visualization
Now that you’ve activated your joy, use it as a launchpad for intention. Think of a desire or goal you’re working on manifesting. Visualize it clearly, but keep the emotional tone from the happy
memory. Imagine your desire unfolding in the same emotional “flavor.” Don’t just see it, feel it. Smile. Allow the excitement to ripple through your body. This is the secret sauce to making your
visualizations powerful and effective.
Why This Works: A Spiritual and Energetic Perspective
In energy work and spiritual psychology, joy is considered a high-frequency state that attracts experiences of a similar vibration. This is why forced or mentally constructed visualizations often
don’t work, they lack emotional resonance. By linking authentic joy to your intention, you bypass resistance and signal alignment to the Universe.
Spiritual Tip: If you’re into chakras, this practice helps open the heart chakra while aligning your third-eye intentions with emotional fuel.
This meditation asks you to go back to a happy moment in your life.
The key to how to be happy comes with visualization. Become more positive and go for the little things. Finding a joyful moment not only applies to your wedding, the day you got promoted, or your first kiss. Maybe for whatever reasons, you may not have experienced these. Perhaps, you cannot find these to be good times, regardless of what the rest of the world claims. It neither needs to be an achievement, a breakthrough, nor a wonderful gift. It may be an unfortunate situation where you can’t find these either. If you see yourself at rock bottom, you need to start by smiling a little.
However, you may want to smile the least at this moment. Therefore, you need to “artificially” trigger it. Using a happy memory can be much more straightforward. Unless you are 24/7 hours locked up in an empty white room, you will experience at least a split-second of a positive feeling. Maybe you saw a cute puppy, perhaps you watched a movie with a beautiful ending, and you feel happy since you did relate to the actors. Maybe, someone told you, “That blouse looks wonderful on you today!”
Even something meaningless can draw a little smile on your face. That’s a start!
A phone call, a Skype message, even that ridiculous meme you saw the other day and made you laugh. I am sure any of these happened to you within the last seven days. To become happy, you need to go out, socialize, and enjoy your own relaxing time. So, you have experienced some of these “minor” moments of joy. You can use them to fill up your soul.
You feel great with yourself.
How to feel better about life and be happy?
The key here is to start smiling and have more lucid happy moments, as those little things (petting a puppy, for example) can jump-start your “joy box” and thus, feeling up your heart with more positive feelings. As you know, like attracts like, and that little bit of happiness that you have felt contributes to attracting more. When you fill-up your heart with joy and gratitude, you start to materialize your desires. As your desires manifest, your happiness expands. With more joy, your willingness to share grows. It is important to remember to share during tough times too. You start to share your blessings more.
You are sharing and expressing gratitude, thus raising your joy, even more, fueling, even more, this “materialization engine,” and getting a higher result… as you can see, it exponentially increased in a looped way. Precisely, this has happened to some people after using the “Receive a Gift” guided meditation. I know that some of you told me you want to be able to fuel this meditation. Therefore, I just gave you an essential foundation for how to do so. So, now you can get the most out of this meditation. Those who wanted to try it out but were afraid it wasn’t going to work due to the abovementioned reason, now you can!

You now have a point to find happiness and healing. Things to be joyful in life are always there.
Now, I also want to share how to “activate” this “artificial” happiness. You will do so right on the spot, without the need for any guided meditation. It is straightforward, really:
- It would be best if you went back to that very moment. Let’s pretend that you recall a chocolate lab puppy you saw the other day. Only find and identify the moment that gave you a positive experience.
- Now that you have the memory of that puppy, focus harder. Try to make the vision as real as possible. Try to recall the feeling of petting the puppy. Remember all the noises the pup was making and how happy the dog was. Recall when he licked your hard and started jumping because he wanted to play with you. Recall the sound of his happy barking…
- You should feel at least a slight positive feeling (if not, look for other memory). When you feel this, I want you to focus all your attention on your emotions and heart. I wish you to relive the situation with your entire being! It will make you happier and happier. If the memory recalled is more complicated, you can continue “the movie” (maybe you played with the dog for a while, or you took a pleasant stroll right after that. You also enjoyed it very much.) Make sure to re-live it!
Only with this will you make “Receive a Gift” work, but you will bring more smiles to your life. Key on how to be happy!
Following these three steps, you will shift your emotions to much better positive feelings. Now that you have these positive feelings, you only need to visualize what you desire, making sure you continue to hold onto those positive feelings you just triggered early. Become more and happier. Allow it in.

As you can see, it is effortless to find meaningful photos that could make you smile a little more. You know what they say, smiles and laughter are contagious… and if there are few of those in your being, but you allow them to arise, they will grow stronger, stronger, and stronger!
So, you now have an awareness of going back to a past moment or finding a moment right now to trigger a smile off from you. Even a little smile already makes a big difference when trying to attract something in your life. That one small moment of happiness will “get the Universe started” in materializing what you need. When you start to notice the very tip of this iceberg, your joy will grow, bringing more pleasant moments, empowering, even more, the Universe’s power to materialize what you manifested.
