Understand your self-limiting beliefs, and step right above them!
How do you know you are tapping your power? Imagine self-limiting beliefs as an advisor that only provides a false fear to slow you down through disempowerment. Today, we are approaching this subject for you to access your power and reclaim your potential.
Oh, before I forget, how are you dealing with guilt? I hope last week's articles about overcoming guilt helped you out. Maybe you read the entire article, but are still having self-limiting thoughts about succeeding. Remember, don't focus on the outcome, but instead take the smallest and easiest step forward.
To be clear, when you have an inner voice telling you something like, "you are not strong enough; you can't make it," you are being fed false fear, potentially by your ego, which seeks comfort and safety, preventing you from taking the smallest risk. Do you want to know how to overcome self-limiting beliefs? Let's go!
When the False Fear strikes you away from your potential achievements
Self-limiting beliefs are false thoughts that tell you you can't do something, regardless of your capability to do so. This feeling is very common, especially because of the competitive society we live in. You can find many reasons to believe "you are not enough," and when you follow this advice and cut yourself short, you are acting on your self-limiting beliefs.
It is time for you to start stepping into your power, because most of the time, you too can achieve things that you can't even imagine... I repeat, you too can remind yourself of this and give it a try, only a little step. Can't? Don't worry, let's keep going.

Sometimes, you can confuse self-limiting beliefs with personality traits. For example, the classic introverted example. About 30% of humans are introverted, but this doesn't mean we need to bury our heads in a hole. Do you think that maybe you are hiding behind your introverted personality as an excuse to not do something?
Self-limiting beliefs will hold you down; believe it or not, pretty much always, when you get a challenge or opportunity, you are ready for it, and you believe that will help you to move forward or not. If you have the skill, you only need to believe you can do it. Still, you can make mistakes and even struggle, but ultimately, you will manage!
Awareness is the first step: Recognizing the Signs of Self-Limiting Beliefs
One reason why self-limiting beliefs are so powerful is that sometimes they go unnoticed. As the false fear it is, it will show true and sporadically. If you are not connected to yourself, you give power to your self-limiting beliefs. The first step is starting with self-work, such as journaling or even receiving coaching. If you feel up to it, we can meet and talk about it. Reach out here or with the WhatsApp button!
Your thoughts are extremely powerful; therefore, you must keep them in check. You cannot observe all your thoughts; no one does, but at least you can have some awareness if you have positive thoughts or otherwise negative self-talk through intrusive thoughts. With the slightest awareness, you can already spot signs.
I recommend you invest some quality time in yourself every day. Even if self-limiting beliefs are not a problem, you always tap into your power when you do this. At the end of the day, in a relaxed spot at home, give yourself 10-15 minutes to listen to your thoughts. You may take notes if you want.

You can't imagine how helpful this is and how much it pays off. Not only will you have new ideas, as well as greater mindfulness, but you will also spot any red flags or negative thoughts that could be slowing you down.
Taking action with thoughts destroys self-limiting beliefs
The best of all, if you spot these thoughts, you will be able to ask, "Why is this? Where does this come from?" Perhaps you can dig up the reasons for any self-limiting beliefs and perhaps find the root of them, normally with the capability to address and completely fix it.
It also helps a lot to write your beliefs down, and with each one of them, you can ask yourself, “If that were true, what does that mean about me?” A lot of times, the root value doesn't add anything to you, or even, it could be completely irrelevant. From here, you can do the following:
- For each self-limiting belief, create an evidence list that will be against the belief itself. By knowing more about yourself and your thoughts, you will find this quite efficient and result-yielding.
- Using past experiences to contradict self-limiting thoughts. For example, you believe that you can't perform well enough. Look into former potential successful performance, and you will remember how possible indeed it is for you.
- Replacing old beliefs with realistic, supportive ones. A lot of times, you are holding yourself back with old beliefs. Sometimes, even if you perform greatly with some minor, very minor flaws, you might only focus on the flaws and walk away with that. If you do, search for supportive thoughts and focus on those instead.
- Reinforcement time of value. Everything matters; all contribute, including you. You can greatly help yourself if you see how important you are, and sometimes, by simply looking at the big picture, you will understand it better.
Monitoring and managing self-talk is always a powerful tool against self-limiting beliefs, because as you listen to yourself, you can monitor the number of words and thoughts that go through your mind. If you identify negativity, shift your gears into thinking something else; it doesn't matter what it is.

If you keep up with these, you will see a powerful reinforcement over time. However, the best of all is that even from a short-term perspective, you can witness your accomplished steps already. Even if they were small, you took them, something you didn't do before, so kudos to you!
The Downward Arrow Technique eliminates irrationality
As with intrusive thoughts, you may experience impulsive and irrelevant thoughts, and these serve no purpose at all. The same goes for self-limiting beliefs; a lot of times, these are completely irrational, a false fear you buy as yours.
A classic example here is when you went to school and felt super satisfied and accomplished after a quiz. Here, you find out that most of the class struggled with it, lowering your confidence. Ultimately, the teacher says that too many people failed their quiz. Your self-limiting beliefs could make you feel you have failed the test when you got an A.
So, here is where the downward arrow technique comes in helpful. Ask yourself questions such as, "What does it mean that most of the class failed me?" and "Why is it so bad, and how am I affected?" As soon as you get an answer, you can ask yourself another question. You will quickly get to a point where the fear wasn't even yours, letting go of it.
I prefer for you to be creative rather than giving you a set amount of examples. Ensure you can have a dialogue with yourself, figuring out every single aspect that makes you shake and why, and finding out if you can do something about it or if it's nothing.

The amazing thing is that the more you do it, the better results you will experience. It gets to the point where you grow accustomed to listening to your thoughts, making it easier to spot red flags if self-limiting beliefs show up.
The Fear that Never was: Your Fears are only your Projections
To start wrapping up, this is a powerful statement. Most of the time, you convince yourself that you are not good enough. You are to give a great speech from the podium, and you know you have a great message, but you develop a fear that never was, and you lose confidence.
Have you found yourself in this situation? If you dig up and know yourself well, as soon as a thought like this comes, stop a moment and think properly about it. You will realize that the reality turned out to be far more empowering than the fear, making you stronger and free of self-limiting beliefs.
Conclusion
Living a life not ruled by fear or false assumptions must be your goal. It can be tricky to spot, but once you are able to spot it, you must find the courage, in the name of your well-being, and take action.
Perhaps you are reading this, and you prefer to hold on to fear and negativity; maybe it draws a smile on your face if you think about it, and if so, I feel very sorry for you. You have been deceived by false fear, making it yours and owning it without the intention to release it. This meditation will help you loads!
Only you are your best asset to know how to overcome self-limiting beliefs and take the required actions toward them. I encourage you to begin your journey now. It is never too late, and you, too, will see a brighter path in front of you.
Keep working hard, one little step at a time, no rush, but no halt... You can even take a break or slip, and if you do, that is part of learning. Stand up, and keep going, you will reach the end. Reach out if you need help, too. I will gladly support you!
